Yield
6 Servings
Ingredients
  • 1 (14-ounce) block extra firm tofu, drained and patted dry
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 Tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 Tablespoons honey or agave nectar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 firm-ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce of choice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons each sesame seeds and flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup chopped cabbage
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400º. Cut tofu into 6 slices.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, vegan Worcestershire sauce, 1 Tablespoon olive oil, toasted sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, nutritional yeast and smoked paprika. Place tofu slices in bowl. Rub mixture into tofu - making sure to coat both sides.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until all liquid has evaporated and tofu becomes nice and firm. Halfway through, flip tofu over and baste with soy sauce mixture.
  4. Once baked, remove from oven. Set aside roasted avocado. Brush tofu on both side with barbecue sauce. Return to oven or transfer to an open grill. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes or until sauce caramelizes slightly. Layer tofu ribs and roasted avocado on top of cabbage. Garnish with seeds and enjoy!
