Today is #GivingTuesday and the need to spread our aloha is bigger than ever. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 with a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Giving what you can to a local organization that does good in our communities, or to someone who needs a helping hand, will make our world a lot brighter.
Here's some of our favorite charities that would appreciate some extra love today:
Aloha Animal Sanctuary
Aloha Animal Sanctuary, Oahu's first 501(c)(3) non-profit sanctuary for farmed animals, accepts animals who have been abused, abandoned, and/or neglected and have nowhere else to go. This is a place where people can visit and form meaningful relationships with the animals.
Leilani Animal Sanctuary
Leilani Farm Sanctuary is an island paradise for rescued animals where compassion for all living beings reigns. Located on eight lush acres of pure love, this all-volunteer, non-profit sanctuary on Maui saves animals destined for slaughter or orphaned after hunters took their mothers and educates the community on the humane treatment of animals.
Hawaii Foodbank
As COVID-19 continues to impact Hawaii, Hawaii Foodbank now faces the unprecedented challenge of providing food for people affected by the pandemic while continuing to meet the nutritional needs of those who were already struggling with hunger. As closures and social distancing guidelines extend across our communities, the impact is being felt by more and more members of our 'ohana.
The Pantry
The Pantry seeks to serve the community by developing innovative ways to effectively serve, with dignity and compassion, the daily food needs of a greater number of Hawaii's working people who struggle with food insecurity including children, the elderly, and those who are disabled. Now, through a matching gift program every dollar donated, up to $10,000, will be matched for a total of $20,000.
Pacific Primate Sanctuary
Pacific Primate Sanctuary is an entirely volunteer, nonprofit wildlife conservation organization dedicated to the protection, preservation and permanent care of threatened, endangered, and distressed primates. Since 1984, the Sanctuary has maintained a federally authorized facility for New World monkeys, many of whom have been rescued from research laboratories, the exotic pet trade, and tourist attractions.
Kupuna Kokua
Kupuna Kokua is an all-volunteer organization that serves our most vulnerable residents by delivering groceries, matching kupuna with volunteers who check in on them weekly to provide help as needed, and supplies reusable face masks.
Kokua Foundation
The Kōkua Hawaii Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii. Their mission is to provide students with experiences that will enhance their appreciation for and understanding of their environment so they will be lifelong stewards of the earth.
808 Cleanups
808 Cleanups is a 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit organization committed to restoring Hawaiʻi's natural beauty by empowering volunteers to conduct decentralized cleanups from Mauka to Makai, responding to littering and vandalism of Hawaii's natural spaces, saving Hawaii's indigenous ecosystem through education, and building sustainable solutions with community partners. 100% of your donations go to cleaning and restoring our communities.
