A Fresh Start for 2015

Down to Earth wishes you a very Happy, Healthy 2015! The beginning of a new year is always a wonderful opportunity to start fresh and we’re here to help you. Our January Events Calendar is packed with so many different inspiring events, there’s bound to be one that’ll help with your goals this year.  In addition to our free monthly cooking classes, here's a few exciting events you might like to consider in January:

A health talk “Nutrition for Alzheimer’s Disease” by Dr. Steve Blake will held in the Down to Earth Community Room above the King St. store in Rm. #309 Satuday Jan.10th at 7:00 pm. He will explain how to lower your risk of Alzheimer’s disease with diet and supplements. Dr. Blake recently pubslished his new book “A Nutritional Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease,” which means you'll have a great opportunity to speak with an expert about a leading form of dementia. This workshop is $20/person.

A cooking class by Guest Chef Gigi Miranda will bring local flavors to the Down to Earth Community Room at our Kapolei store on Monday Jan. 12th at 6:00 pm. Her “Cooking with Local Flavors” class will emphasize cooking and baking with “healing” cultural and local plant foods from across the Pacific. Chef Gigi will show how to make ‘Uala Brownie Bites, Mini Fruit Coconut Mac Nut Tarts, and more. This ono class is $30/person and is sure to sell out fast!

Our dear friend, Deanna Rose of Indigo Elixirs, will be offering two different amazing workshops this month:

  • A “Medical Tincture” workshop will be held at the Down to Earth Community Room above the King St. store in Rm #302 on Wednesday Jan. 14th. This class is $50, and includes all supplies needed to learn about the art of crafting tinctures and medical extracts using traditional folk methods.
  • Her extremely popular “Botanical Perfumery” workshop will be held for the first time on the west side in the Down to Earth Community Room at our Kapolei store on Friday Jan. 23rd at 6:00 pm.  Deanna will explain the basics of essential oils, resins, and absolutes. In this hands-on workshop you'll be able to make your own personal scent! The class is $50, which covers all your supplies.

“How to Grow Your Own Food” will be subject of this month's Coffee Talk at our Kailua store on Saturday Jan. 17th at 9:00 am. Leading the discussion will be Paul Izak and Kelly Stern from Yogarden Hawaii. Our “Coffee Talk” events are always a great social scene where the community gets a chance to “talk story” with local leaders and experts.
