Down to Earth to Begin Kahului Store Renovation December 17th

Honolulu, HI (Nov. 29, 2012) – Down to Earth Organic & Natural today announced it will begin renovating and expanding its Kahului store at 305 Dairy Road on December 17th. To kick off the project, there will be a traditional Hawaiian blessing on Friday December 14th at 7:00 pm, followed by a Christmas party with pupus, drawings for prizes, and entertainment. The general public is invited to attend.

The Kahului store renovation will be a complete transformation. It includes an expansion that converts 3,000 square feet of storage space into retail space, for a total of 9,000 square feet. The renovation is expected to be completed in April. The bulk of work will be done during off hours. The store will remain open throughout the entire renovation.

“The bigger and renovated store will have many new products and will allow us to offer our customers a substantially wider range of local, fresh, organic and natural products,” says Mark Fergusson, Down to Earth CEO.

“We will more than double the size of the chill and frozen department, nearly double the size of bulk food department, greatly improve our deli, and expand the wellness, grocery, and produce departments,” he added.

The upstairs dining area will be remodeled to better accommodate the free cooking classes that the store conducts every Tuesday night 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. And, there will be a new outdoor dining area and better parking.

To improve energy efficiency, the new store will have state-of-the-art air conditioning, refrigeration, and LED lighting systems.

The renovations and the new Kahului store are designed to have the “look” of the company’s new flagship 10,000 square-foot store in Kapolei, Oahu, which opened last year. The décor will be inspired by the company's new logo and tell the story of its local, fresh and organic values, and its Hawaiian principles.

Fergusson explains, "Inspired by Hawai’i’s state motto, 'The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness' (Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Āina i ka Pono”), we envision a Hawai'i where all people 'Cherish the land and live in health and harmony' (E Mālama I Ka `Āina, E Ola Pono)."

Down to Earth was started in Wailuku Maui over 35 years ago. In addition to its Kahului store, the company has four locations on Oahu: Honolulu, Kailua, Pearlridge, and Kapolei.
