Save the Planet, One Bite at a Time!

Aloha,

This Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, 2010, I am giving a seminar entitled “Save the Planet, One Bite at a Time!” You may well ask, “So what is this about?”

Over the years Earth Day has become a day of lip service to the environment, where companies pledge allegiance to the need to be good environmental stewards and announce some new corporate initiative that makes them look good. For example, last Earth Day, McDonalds (which has the dubious distinction of probably being the biggest cow killer in history) celebrated Earth Day by announcing that their corporate headquarters had obtained LEED Certification.

Now don’t get me wrong, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification is great. But, when a company like McDonalds trumpets LEED Certification as their environmental credentials then you know Earth Day has been hijacked! There is much evidence that McDonalds is directly responsible for much of the deforestation of the Amazon, and topsoil loss and desertification across the world. Additionally, McDonalds is a major contributor to the biggest blight on the face of the earth, the horrendous factory farm system and massive slaughterhouses.

If you really want to make the earth a better place, if you want to do good for yourself, for the environment, and for all the earth’s inhabitants, then this Earth Day, go vegetarian. Following Earth Day you can carry on that resolve by joining Down to Earth as we launch Meatless Mondays, starting on Monday, April 26, 2010. On Meatless Mondays we will be offering you great savings on some of our ALL VEGETARIAN Preferred Brand items to make it easier for you to eat less meat.

And on Earth Day we are having our annual Earth Day sale where we offer 30% off on 100 of our best selling items to help you save money while doing good for the environment.

If you live on Oahu, you are invited to attend my seminar this Tursday evening from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. You'll find out how adopting a vegetarian diet saves the planet one bite at a time. Space is limited, so please call ahead to reserve your seat. Our Community Outreach Team will be glad to help: Tel. 947-3249.

As always, mahalo for shopping with Down to Earth.
